Your analogy about cell phones is spot on, but my point was about cars in general, citing my experience with BMW as springboard to citing obsolescence in vehicles in general, not picking on BMW specifically.I have stories about those experiences beyond the scope of this text!
If people like field coils in their audio chain of reproduction, it's their choice and they should go for it. It's their money and their own Perception (which, in the HiFi World, usually trumps technical realities).
I'm just pointing out that there is no technical, economic, or sonic reason in my EXPERIENCE to want to get into that time machine, and that the main reason is 99% Nostalgia and Emotional Testing, which is all too common, even in the age of free software and $70 flat microphones (along with other test equipment in concert with our aging hearing mechanisms.
