The post your respond to ignored the fact that I mentioned having a listening experience with that 90 year old technology and found not a dime's worth of difference (a favorite Paul Klipsch expression). As a matter of fact I heard 3 different speakers with said Field Coils.
The main thing I noticed is these huge boxes behind all of them as a plugged-into-AC-sockets just to provide what could have been done with Permanent Magnets for much lower cost.
I have experience with Samarium Cobalt Magnets, which are the strongest, and would STOMP the performance of these ancient monstrosities nostalgic types are so in love with, but it has NOTHING to do with real performance or cost (real dollars and real/non-emotional testing). Even the high cost of Samarium Cobalt magnets would be a bargain compared to the COST and space used by Field Coils.
As a Pro Photographer with a EE background, I also appreciate Tin types, Glass Negatives, Albument Prints, etc. but in the world of 100 Megapixel Cameras, and Monochrome Carbon and Color Pigment inks for Large Format Inkjet Inks, I don't need those ancient methods to make a great looking print either. Certain things look great in a museum.
Speaker of Ford Model T's, I live near Ford Museum and designed Electronics for BMW, whose planned obsolescence cycle is much shorter than anything in Audio. I also have recent experience in Reverse Engineering for Military, Public Transport, and Wind Energy for repair purposes using modern Integrated Circuits, IGBT's, and MOSFET transistors.
Bottom line is, I much prefer FORWARD engineering! LOL.
