As an aside, the symptoms described by gluca in his first post don't sound to me like distortion in the 4001 is the issue. Hence my follow-up questions in another post, which might have shed some light on whether the problem was a lack of high frequency energy in the reverberant field (judging by its geometry, I would expect the Iwata horn to beam at high frequencies).
Regardless of whether the problem is distortion or beaming or his preamp tubes or whatever, I strongly agree with your recommendation of high-end Fostex tweeters over ribbons for pairing up with horns.
