Home Critic's Corner

Discuss a review. Provide constructive feedback. Talk to the industry.

How reviewers do it...

...they don't have to be wealthy, but it never hurts.

They do it the same way retail salespeople and those working in the industry do it.

They all buy at dealer cost so when they upgrade and sell their old equipment, they get pretty close to what they paid - they don't lose a lot of money on each upgrade.

And they do it over a long period of time.

Fremer has been doing this for around 25 years.

When I started reviewing in 1985, I had maybe a $5000 system. When I retired in 2000, I ended up with a $30,000 one that actually cost me $15,000 or so.

So a $10,000 additional expenditure on equipment upgrades over 15 years for a serious audiophile is nothing - less than $1000 a year.

As for Fremer, his wife works, they have no kids and I'll bet he saves his money.
