The truth is that everything needs to be listened to.....to know anything. That said, a discrete op amp in a socket sounds better than a 1612 on a board (I recently talked with someone who a/bed the 1612 hard soldered and a New Class D op amp in a socket and the New Class D was much better). You would have to listen to know anything....It is not just some simple engineering. I love Bruno's work. I love the Purifi module. However, I mod it.....for better sound. I don't know everything that makes for better sound......neither does Bruno. My best combined with his best equals seriously great sound. Everything can be improved. When you buy a $70K Corvette.....you can take it to the speed shop and have 100s of horsepower added.....or even more tweaked suspension, etc. Same with audio gear except it is infinite....because every single thing you do makes a sonic difference.....so no one knows very much at all....including me.....and I have over 40 years of listening to parts, circuits, execution, etc. This game is infinite.
Trust only your ears. You know what sounds best to you. Do not trust someone because they have a certain "reputation"......trust your ears....trust your ears. Don't be a sheep! Don't be a follower. Do your own tests.....in your own home......trust your self.
