One small detail you forgot to mention.The EVAL1 board designed and built by Bruno Putzeys (the amp designer) is the cleanest measured 1ET400A input buffer to date.
The boutique opamp boards are not as clean so the subjective opinion of "better" maybe the higher distortion ratings not unlike the higher THD of tubes.
