While the article says that the event had jaw dropping sound with an low end Onkyo receiver you are quite likely to get better sound with either an integrated amplifier or running a power amplifier through the Audio GD Fun preamplifier section.
What's interesting about your question is if my memory serves me correctly the HSU subwoofer provides a high pass filter to the speakers reducing the need for amplifier watts.
I'd look into something like this

or the myriad of integrated amplifiers from Cambridge Audio, NAD, Rotel, Yamaha etc.
If you search AA you'll likely find threads on low-cost power amplifiers and low-cost integrated amplifiers.
