It might be worth noting that my $50 DAC uses a Wolfson WM8740 DAC; this chip provides voltage output rather current output, the latter being more common for DACs. This means that the DAC as a whole eliminates the typically necessary current-to-voltage (I/V) stage usually provided by opamps. Instead my cheap DAC has only a buffer stage; here I substituted a (relatively) expensive OPA627 opamp pair for the original OP275.
NOT the 51st state, eh!?!
