if i understand you so far, the 280 is smooth and tube-like, the 240/290 and possibly the 270 are more 'neutral'. how does the 275 fit in, and what is the difference between v and non-v versions sonically.
finally, and most importantly, forgetting for a moment about matching with the A30, which of the accuphase preamps, past or present, is the classic all-arounder?

(p.s. i have a guy that wants to sell me the dp 80 with his dc81. he says accuphase recently looked at it and gave it the thumbs up. i would assume that doesn't guarantee the life of the laser or transport, right? maybe i'll wait for a 90/91 pair to come up. how do they compare?)
