I didn't mean to imply that the Alpha Core's are better just because they're expensive. I said that they are better because they are made using superior technology. Not only are they air code but they use a foil winding which seems to reduce skin effect. Additionally, they have the same DCR as the stock Maggie coils. I also believe their weight plays a role in how good they sound (less microphonic). As far as externally mounting them, I thought you had removed your socks? If this is the case you can simply mount them where you've been mounting the other inductors that you've been experimenting with. They will just protrude out the rear about an inch or less.

I haven't had a chance to hook up my system yet since the move. Hopefully I will get it up and running in the next week. However, it's going to take me some time after that to get things tuned-in before I start experimenting with the XO's.
