RE: Crossed Wires

J,

This whole thing is confusing.

I HAD thought that the original mmg crossover (2nd/1st config) and all maggies that have a 2nd/1st config had the drivers reversed.

That is true, but what was news to me was that the 1st/1st ALSO have the polarity swapped.

See I was trying to get a handle of the settings I needed on my active crossover which is computer based. Long story short I couldnt get the curve that davey shows on his website using the same numbers. The software shows you what the overall electrical crossover looks like based 0n the given settings.

That is when Davey said that dip I was getting was because "of the non-polarity-inverted summation. I’m not that familiar with the Thuneau software, but if it allows to invert the polarity of one of the drivers the result should be identical to mine."

And when I did that in the software, the curve was indeed like his.

So while I dont get it, what Davey says seems to work and I believe him. The graphs in my crossover certainly did change when I followed his advice. Though for the life of me I am not sure what the polarity switch actually does in the crossover software. I need to check if it changes just the low out put or a predetermined output, etc...but that is a long way off before I get there it seems.

Maybe Davey will school us all...
