...of when I lived in Encinitas. The Stone Brewing Co. was close by in San Marcos and I sampled many of their ales. Their Arrogant Bastard brew does have a strong hops taste and can definitely put you on your ass in short order. I tended to stick with their green label Stone IPA. Their Stone Ruination IPA is even more devastating than the Arrogant Bastard.

With cheers to my fellow inmates on New Year's Eve, I've just tried my first taste of Stone Brewing Co. Ruination IPA... insanely bitter 100+ IBUs, which makes the regular Stone IPA at 77 IBUs taste like kids stuff (which is saying a lot). The good news is the forward bitterness soon settles into a more flavorful unfiltered goodness of the fruitier side of the Ruination IPA's hops and yeast, and a generous but not too sweet malt backbone. Up next is a favorite go-to Pacific Northwest brew... The Pike Brewing Company Pikes IPA with a saner 60 IBUs (but no less flavorful).
Cheers, Duster

Let's hope that 2013 brings all of us the best.
