hello ; thanks for your kind answer ; as you have guessed, I'm new here (hi, everybody), and I wrote somewhere the size of my room (in meters, 7x4x2,5) and the cables I use with my speakers (Qed Anniversary). Of course, I'd like to change them for Audio Note cables, but I must go one step at a time ( according to my minister of finances ) ; speaking of that, I wondered if I should go for the best cables I could afford in the AN range, or buy the same cables that are used inside the speakers, to go from the filter to the woofers and tweeters -- that could make sense, but who knows ? Maybe you ? I'm open to any advice from my fellow audio addicts...

While you're saving up for the AN speaker cables, buy yourself a hundred feet or so of 14 awg inductor (magnet) wire and use it biwire your AN-E's. I'm completely sold on solid core wire for cabling (interconnects and speaker wire), and I'm betting that after wiring up your AN's with the inductor wire you won't think twice about ever using anything else in your system.
thank you for your answer and advice ; I saw Mario today (he must be something like Peter Qvortrup's second), and his advice is to go for the Lexus, bi-wire, even if I have to wait for second hand lengths -- what I always have to do anyway : wait. But I like that. Isn't it in the zen philosophy, that the way to a goal is as important, often more important, than the goal itself ? But when you've reached the goal, now I know the impression, you forget about the difficulties on the way.
I had to look on gaaargle to find what is a 14 awg ; I don't know what gave you the idea of trying that instead of regular speaker cables, but that's an idea. If I can, I'll try and tell you.
with my regards,
""I had to look on gaaargle to find what is a 14 awg ; I don't know what gave you the idea of trying that instead of regular speaker cables, but that's an idea. If I can, I'll try and tell you.""I used to be into headphones, and I made up a bunch of headphone cables using the solid core inductor wire, and the cables sounded so good that I thought I'd make up some interconnects with the solid core (18 awg), and I liked the way the interconnects sounded so much that I thought I'd try the solid core as speaker wires, and I'm extremely pleased with the results. To my ears the solid core is more coherent and doesn't have the time smearing that stranded wire does.
I use Techflex to cover the inductor wire.

Hello,
Another possibility with Audio Note speakers is to use basic cooper litz cable (check in France "le guipage moderne"), which is available for a cheap price. Bi-wiring gaves better results at home.
Audio Note Lexus is also an interesting way but sound is quite specific (high bass/low medium range). It gives energy but it's not as balanced than silver cables (in my opinion).
I don't appreciate SPe (even bi-wired) which not represente in my system a real improvement (compared to a good and basic cooper litz cable) and it costs an arm.
SPx is good, expensive but good, with a beautiful upper range.
Sogon is wonderful but so expensive that it's not really an option.
My two cents.
Enjoy
Ugo

but too little midrange?
If so I can not see that (maybe a bit of extra bass) but I have not tried it on any other system.
On my system the midrange is very expansive and does not seem down in level.
I have not compared them to silver wire except for Reynaud 216 (I think is the right number) which was a bit thin in the mids.
thanks
Phil
I agree, have not heard that criticism of Lexus. Some complain that it is not as brilliant or open sounding as SPe, SPx, and Sogon, which is another way of saying it's copper rather than silver. But because it has fifty strands of copper, it exhibits a great many compensating virtues, not least among them a pleasing overall balance. And I agree with your comparison with JMR's cable, which is a copper strand coated with silver. What's interesting to me is that on all Reynauds up through the Offrande Supremes, Lexus outperforms the JMR cable and actually seems more satisfying than SPe. SPx changes the game a bit, Sogon...well game over. To state the obvious, how Lexus performs with speakers is also affected by what precedes it in the audio chain. If you run from Pallas to Sootto to Sogon and then arrive at Lexus....well you'll get fewer complaints about lost brilliance and openness!

Hello Bob,
You have a better explanation than me of what is lexus. A very good cable with different qualities than SPe and SPx and you can have it for a cheaper price.
Now, if one day I have to replace my Sogon80 by another cables, I will test again the Lexus and do everyhting to obtain the better results with.
Enjoy

Hello,
May be just a little bit more (high) bass. It's the same when you compare AN S2 and AN S8 step ups.
Now, when I tested the Lexus at home:
- I didn't change the position of my AN E (each stand = 45kg) and they were probably to closed from the wall with this configuration
- My room doesn't like the bass so much.
I currently bi-wire with Sogon80 (I know, it's ridiculus) and obtains great results.

hello Ugo, hi everybody ; another subject that interests me : you say your stands weigh 45 kg, and I suppose they are the dedicated AN stands. What do you use to reach that weight ? Sand is easy to find, but I'm looking for lead and everytime people tell me it's not available, even forbidden. What is your secret (another one ?) ?
And thanks for the advice on speaker cables ; for the moment, the Qed are quite good, and I don't want to make a decision, as I don't have my preamp to be able to compare ( I'm using the preamp part of an E203 Accuphase, and it lacks subtlety compared to an AN ).
By the way, I'm looking for an AN Phono stage, or an M2+Phono, and I could sell my line M1. Something better would be ... better, but I suppose out of my reach.
Hello Lou,
Theses stands are a special order to audio note uk. It looks like standard stands but everything is larger, with ticker metal plates.
I didn't ordered it myself, it was just a very pleasant surprise when I bought my last pair of AN E (second hand ones).
I don't know the M1, but I tested the M2 phono at home and really appreciated it. You don't have the output transformers as with M3, but sound is warm and generous (when M3 is more accurate).
Phono stage is very good. I prefered it to an audio research phono 1.
Meishu is also a very interesting solution.
Enjoy

I really like the Lexus, and was told to avoid the SPa - which was not really a step up, so either the Lexus or the SPe, which costs quite a bit, so that leaves the Lexus (which, I think, is what your speakers use inside anyway).
I have considered the SPe as a single run but see no need the Lexus is so good imo...
btw I have the TT1, Arm1 and IQ2 and really love the open sound and quiet backgrounds. When I listen to the TT my stereo is all AN gear and it has a very direct quality that I like.
thanks
Phil
hello Phil ; wanted to write before, but I was busy mixing an album (and for those interested, I'm happy and proud to say that I'm mastering it tomorrow in the famous Abbey Road Studios), but I was curious to know what your system was ? You seem to have quite a number of AN equipment, right ? I'm also happy to say that I got my P2SE back, and now I'm waiting for my M1 and P1 ; old age, they had to be checked, my new AN-Es deserve that. I tried to put some of my old preamps in the place of the M1 but, even if it's a kind of entry level, I could not come back to what I had before ; the E203 Accuphase sounded especially heavy, and dark if I may say so. As my TT1 needs some checking too, I prefered to completely take out the phono stage and the TT1, and play the cd straight through the P2SE amp, as there is a volume knob. Of course, without a proper preamp I can't have as much power as before, but the sound is so clear ! And I don't think about any bass problem, or subject, I even think that, placed in corners, the AN-Es could have too much bass, and I don't want to destroy the subtle balance I have now.
So you see, Phil, everything is not settled yet, but I'm on the right track -- and I enjoy it !
See you
oh, I forgot ; I can't use the corners, in fact I have no choice regarding positioning the speakers ; and I consider myself lucky I can stack my thousands of vinyls and cds in the living room (some married people will understand)
