I -think- it was RSV that kicked my butt about this time last year. I was extremely sick and congested for about 3 weeks. By the time I saw my doctor I was on the tail end of it but he gave me some antibiotics anyway. It wasn't COVID.Hope you're feeling better and playing with the AV gear soon.

Thanks, Abe, I'm feeling much better. The hospital stay gave me a chance to evaluate how we actual use AV and to recognize our current setups didn't reflect that. I'll be setting up a Sony HT A9 system in the media room upstairs for HT Thursday, and I've ordered a white KEF LS60 to replace the maroon LS50 W2 in the living room where we listen to music. Keeping Ayre disc player and phonostage and Oppo 205. Plan to sell everything else. A proper downsize for a couple in their mid-80s that will result in AV setups that suit our needs.
I've been searching with little success for a device that can switch between eARC and HDMI. Today I watched programs about setting up a Sony HT A9 on YouTube, and came to the conclusion that the 85" Sony Bravia TV can do the switching. Right now the Oppo 205 is connected via HDMI to the 75" Sony in the living room, and when I scan the inputs it shows up by name. eARC goes from the Sony to a KEF LS50 W2. I plan to move the Oppo to the HT A9 setup and use the Ayre DX-5 DSD with the LS60. Do I connect the Ayre via HDMI to the Sony and let the Sony send eARC to the LS60?
Then there's the question of the HT A9 that has an HDMI input port. Do I take HDMI from both the Oppo and Nucleus to a simple HDMI switch or input both to the 85" Sony?
Without seeing your setup in person it's almost impossible for me to say how to set it up. You have a lot of flexibility with HDMI so try it one way and if it's not working the way you like try it another way.
I get the impression that Sony integrates the HT A9 closely with the new Bravia models like our 85" TV, and that you can do most of the selections and controls from the TV. Right now, the Ayre shows up as an HDMI input, and I think I'll try to switch that out for HDMI from the Nucleus and see what I get. HDMI from the Oppo 205 will go to the HT A9 control unit.
The Ayre will be moved to the living for use with the LS60 with HDMI into the 75" Bravia that will output eARC to the LS60.
My concern about an eARC/HDMI switch vanished. In the living room the Ayre DX-5 DSD inputs to HDMI 4 of the XR-75X90K that outputs eARC to the LS50 W2. The sound is excellent.
Upstairs in the media room things are more complicated. I connected HDMI from the Nucleus to HDMI 4 of the 85" Sony, but the Sony identifies it as a PC, and Roon shows it's playing through the Bryston SP3 even though the SP3 is disconnected and the HDMI cable is going to the Sony TV. Obviously I have more work to do.
I'm very impressed with the immersive sound from the Sony HT A9. It's a clear win.
Roon now sees the TV as something to enable, and I've enabled it, but Roon is not playing through the TV yet. More work to do.
Roon is playing through the 85" Sony that outputs via eARC to the Sony HT A9. Nice to have. but if I really want to listen to music it'll be Roon to the KEF LS60 via Ethernet.

It occurred to me the Sony TV identifies the input as a computer rather than Nucleus because that's what it is, a stripped-down special-purpose computer.
Good to see that your experimenting is starting to payoff.
A KEF LS60 is playing downstairs and a Sony HT A9 upstairs. Thanks for all your help. I'm a very happy camper.
