Yup. The Maggies are mentioned in the liner notes of one of the albums, along with the Audio Research amps used to drive them.

Follow Ups:
At age 17, my first major recalibration of how realistic an audio system could sound was via Tympani IIIs driven by ARC electronics (Crown DC-300a on woofers). I had a Cit 11 preamp at the time and dealer lent me an SP-3a to compare at home over a weekend.
Recording that instantly revealed the difference to me? The opening shakers in Do It Again . One sounded like electronics. The other sounded like live music. Had a lasting effect on me. :)
I can certainly see where shakers would make for a good reference standard for realistic sound reproduction. A good mix of percussiveness and probably a fairly complex harmonic structure. And as we know, someplace where electrostats and ribbon tweeters are going to shine.

With a fresh listen it is more like a funky South American instrument , sticks across a ridged block, or my wife suggested one where you blow through it with a regular cymbal strike that should sound soft and not hard.Lots of tasty textures that say "real" to these ears. Take a listen closely to the first twenty seconds or so. Quite revealing.
