Yup. The Maggies are mentioned in the liner notes of one of the albums, along with the Audio Research amps used to drive them.

  At age 17, my first major recalibration of how realistic an audio system could sound was via Tympani IIIs driven by ARC electronics (Crown DC-300a on woofers). I had a Cit 11 preamp at the time and dealer lent me an SP-3a to compare at home over a weekend.
  
  Recording that instantly revealed the difference to me? The opening shakers in Do It Again . One sounded like electronics. The other sounded like live music. Had a lasting effect on me. :)

    I can certainly see where shakers would make for a good reference standard for realistic sound reproduction. A good mix of percussiveness and probably a fairly complex harmonic structure. And as we know, someplace where electrostats and ribbon tweeters are going to shine.

      With a fresh listen it is more like a funky South American instrument , sticks across a ridged block, or my wife suggested one where you blow through it with a regular cymbal strike that should sound soft and not hard.
      Lots of tasty textures that say "real" to these ears. Take a listen closely to the first twenty seconds or so. Quite revealing.
