General speaking whole foods are not the same thing as expensive foods. That place most definitely appeals to folks who seem to conflate quality and price. Their price buster products, 365, are the same thing as sold at Walmart for half the price. Don't matter much to me though if I'm looking for more higher quality without considering prices I'll drive a bit further and find an AJs. Thing that bothers me most about Whole Foods is the perfume smells that seem to permeate the place.
Follow Ups:
Yes, a lot of their product prices are high. For example, the exact same Emmi Le Gruyere cheese which can be found at other stores for much less. (I'm NOT saying that Emmi Le Gruyere is anything special. It's fair-to-ok.)On the other hand, they have things which aren't in other grocery stores, and 'that' availability commands a price. For example, a decent boule of Italian-style bread. And, they have a reasonably decent meat department. I can choose which beef short ribs I want. And, nowhere else in the area can I find celerie root, which is necessary to make celerie remoulade.
So, I shop there for this-or-that, but people who shop there for daily groceries apparently have way more money than they should be allowed to have. ;)

Yep we like their bakery. When we are having guests over for dinner we might pick up some of the half baked loaves and finish them fresh for the meal.
