Mike,
What would be your best, no holds barred, 5K output for a 45 amp? Figure I would start with the worst sticker shock and work down to an upgrade I could afford :)
I currently have EXO-145 Litz outputs in a 45 amp and TL-404's in a 45 headphone and speaker amp.

Hi Mike,
Email sent, if a Litz Mexico Quad Mu output can't be done, what 5K do you offer?
Alonzo
I don't think I have any silver wire left for a 5k SE output trans suitable for the 45 tube.
I may have the right sizes for a certified ofhc (oxygen free copper) build for 5k parafeed.
The only all silver single ended output that I have (and the last pair of even these) is the DS-025 which is an airgapped SE output optimized for the 2A3. It has a 2500 ohm primary (60 mils plate current} and 8 and 16 ohm secondaries.

Mexico maybe? All Nickel?
Entirely possible and the approach that I am in fact most leaning toward. But still need to mull over and think it out.
As just one example of a practical issue that I'm wrestling with is.... One idea is I'd like to again build some units with the all litz secondaries. But the Mexico's secondary winding architecture is such that it is a twin coil of equal impedances design.. One of which is centertapped. Which means I have five leads on the secondary.
When we did the litz secondary before it was for a single 8 ohm secondary impedance and hence only two terminations were needed.
Mexico design would need five such terminations. If it were built on a larger lamination we could build it with flying leads mount the trans vertically and use Bell ends. Problem solved. BUT. BUT. there are not Bell end caps for the smaller lam size used in the EXO forty series. Hence we have to probably use solder lugs... And part of the beauty of the litz was going direct to the output terminals (RCA jacks) direct with no solder joints. Mexico makes this approach more difficult from practical considerations...
The above is just one of the " details" that must get flushed out in any new design. And if I'm not happy... If I'm not feeling Zen... The project is on hold until I'm happy. That's always how I've designed and brought to market new products. It must first please me as the designer.
Sorry if I've rambled!!!

That's not a ramble, an excellent explanation of the problems and situations to work thru. I'm just glad you didn't throw up your hands and say "Impossible". Seems that a little more thinking, some good food, a glass of wine (it works for me) and you'd be well on your way to a solution. I have patience (really I do!). If you can work it out, you will and I will be very grateful. If not, then we will all learn something, and I'll still be grateful.
Mike,
Weekly bump, maybe something in the 4K range since I'm going to supply lower frequency support.

Mike doesn't build anything in the 4K range.....
I know, I know. But I can always ask :). I really want 5K anyway...but will settle if he decides it's a change he can make.
Guys,
Mike's silver iron is magical.
Yeah, I asked him about those last year, the sticker shock and some repairs on the Cayenne made the decision for me. What I would like to see is silver wire tfa2004's wound for 5K, M3 and Nickel pinstripes with a big chunk of nickel.
I've got the same question Mike. Sent you and email last week, actually two different emails with no response yet.
I did get one email but not a second.
Been mulling over an answer... Maybe I think things out to much but sometimes I just don't have a ready response and need to think or mull over the question.
Your email fell into that category.

I use a dowdy choke with tfa2004sr's. Unbelievable bass. But it is 3k not 5k
Don't you have a pair of 2004 JR silver in channel frames?I'd love to hear those myself.
And I built a very special pair of all silver TFA-2004 JR Mexico for Xcortes.
These are probably my very favorite coil design in this series.I can build the Mexico's in copper magnet wire.

Oh yes I also have a SR45 a,p with silver 2004 jr's and cobalt plate chokes. It sounds amazing too!
I have Dowdy chokes on my 45 amp with EXO145's. And Dowdy chokes on a tfa2004 2A3 amp also, I agree they just sound amazing. I'm looking to see it there's an intermediate step up before the $$$$ silver outputs.
Count your blessings the EXO-145's are very rare and very cool.
Treasure them!

And they sound great, just seeing if there was a step up. If not I'm perfectly happy leaving this amp alone and experimenting with another 45 amp. Your suggestions work out very well, I'm loving the 45 headphone amp you helped me with.
Cobalt EXO-45s would come to mind as perhaps better than silver versions, even.
But impossible to get someone to give up there pair. Mike has said there's limited to no supply of material.
I'm using EXO-050's (full nickel) and TL-404's in a 300B amp switched and like the 050's a little better than the 404's.
The build I want to use this OPT in has less than a watt output and already has 404's in it. Given my experience with the two transformers above, I too am looking for something special that can output 4 Ohms on the secondary.
I'm looking forward to your ideas Mike!
The MEXICO models are particularly optimized for 4 ohm (low impedance) secondary loads.

Which Mexico model has a 5k primary?
I'm debating which model to build in the Mexico format. Each candidate would involve a redesign...Here's the candidates:
EXO 40 Series. 5k primary. Parafeed. As Mexico it would have secondary impedances of 16, 8, and 4 ohms.
TFA-200? JR a five K version of the TFA-2004 MEXICO.
I'm very much leaning toward the EXO FORTY devices as I have a much greater inventory of cool laminations (M3, M4, M6, and low nickel) in this size whereas my inventory of the good stuff in the 2004 core size is much more limited and is very difficult to source these days.
Plus smaller core sizes are magnetically more efficient due to the shorter magnetic path length.
Someday I have to say more about core materials and buyers' preferences... and how there's some really AWESOME state of the art core mats that don't enjoy the buzz factor (sadly) that say nickel and cobalt do...
I'm game for input, feedback, ideas, suggestions... a discussion of what may be desirable and what may be practical...

Hi Mike,
Just touching back with you on these transformers. Are your new core mats on or above the level of the Mexico PS or Quad core outputs you made? These are definitely an Awesome set of outputs.
I think the love for nickel and cobalt to me comes from the detail in the mid range you can hear in very low power amps. I bet they really shine with another couple of watts power but I haven't heard any in a > 4 watt amp.
My 2 cents (should be 50 with inflation) is let's generate the buzz. There won't be any talk until you get them in the hands (ears) of people with amps and I'm all in for experimenting.
Alonzo
Didn't you used to make a EXO-50 (5K 4,8.16 ohms)? How far off would it be to go this route and only make the 8 ohm, or 4 ohm, whichever would give the longest unbroken run in a Mexico version? A somewhat compromise so that you don't have to add the additional taps into the winding.
