I did get one email but not a second.
Been mulling over an answer... Maybe I think things out to much but sometimes I just don't have a ready response and need to think or mull over the question.
Your email fell into that category.

I use a dowdy choke with tfa2004sr's. Unbelievable bass. But it is 3k not 5k
Don't you have a pair of 2004 JR silver in channel frames?I'd love to hear those myself.
And I built a very special pair of all silver TFA-2004 JR Mexico for Xcortes.
These are probably my very favorite coil design in this series.I can build the Mexico's in copper magnet wire.

Oh yes I also have a SR45 a,p with silver 2004 jr's and cobalt plate chokes. It sounds amazing too!
I have Dowdy chokes on my 45 amp with EXO145's. And Dowdy chokes on a tfa2004 2A3 amp also, I agree they just sound amazing. I'm looking to see it there's an intermediate step up before the $$$$ silver outputs.
Count your blessings the EXO-145's are very rare and very cool.
Treasure them!

And they sound great, just seeing if there was a step up. If not I'm perfectly happy leaving this amp alone and experimenting with another 45 amp. Your suggestions work out very well, I'm loving the 45 headphone amp you helped me with.
Cobalt EXO-45s would come to mind as perhaps better than silver versions, even.
But impossible to get someone to give up there pair. Mike has said there's limited to no supply of material.
I'm using EXO-050's (full nickel) and TL-404's in a 300B amp switched and like the 050's a little better than the 404's.
The build I want to use this OPT in has less than a watt output and already has 404's in it. Given my experience with the two transformers above, I too am looking for something special that can output 4 Ohms on the secondary.
I'm looking forward to your ideas Mike!
The MEXICO models are particularly optimized for 4 ohm (low impedance) secondary loads.

Which Mexico model has a 5k primary?
I'm debating which model to build in the Mexico format. Each candidate would involve a redesign...Here's the candidates:
EXO 40 Series. 5k primary. Parafeed. As Mexico it would have secondary impedances of 16, 8, and 4 ohms.
TFA-200? JR a five K version of the TFA-2004 MEXICO.
I'm very much leaning toward the EXO FORTY devices as I have a much greater inventory of cool laminations (M3, M4, M6, and low nickel) in this size whereas my inventory of the good stuff in the 2004 core size is much more limited and is very difficult to source these days.
Plus smaller core sizes are magnetically more efficient due to the shorter magnetic path length.
Someday I have to say more about core materials and buyers' preferences... and how there's some really AWESOME state of the art core mats that don't enjoy the buzz factor (sadly) that say nickel and cobalt do...
I'm game for input, feedback, ideas, suggestions... a discussion of what may be desirable and what may be practical...

Hi Mike,
Just touching back with you on these transformers. Are your new core mats on or above the level of the Mexico PS or Quad core outputs you made? These are definitely an Awesome set of outputs.
I think the love for nickel and cobalt to me comes from the detail in the mid range you can hear in very low power amps. I bet they really shine with another couple of watts power but I haven't heard any in a > 4 watt amp.
My 2 cents (should be 50 with inflation) is let's generate the buzz. There won't be any talk until you get them in the hands (ears) of people with amps and I'm all in for experimenting.

Didn't you used to make a EXO-50 (5K 4,8.16 ohms)? How far off would it be to go this route and only make the 8 ohm, or 4 ohm, whichever would give the longest unbroken run in a Mexico version? A somewhat compromise so that you don't have to add the additional taps into the winding.
