It will play SACDs well, and make your CDs sound better than ever.
It also has lots on inputs, so it can be a good DAC as well that will take whatever you throw at it, so no obsolescence.
The Technics has good reviews, but haven't heard it.

Follow Ups:
I typed in SACD players in the Ebay search to get an idea what was out there, & the Maranaz one of the ones that came up. At around 4K I felt it was at about the top end of my budget. I did note however, that it did not feature balanced analog outputs, only RCA. Did see that for about the same price, there is a Yamaha SACD player that does feature balanced analog outputs.
I replaced a Yamaha cds-2000 which has the balanced outs with the Marantz. The Yamaha is really good, but it does not have the bandwith, transparancy, and accuracy of the Marantz. If you need balanced outs, the SA-10 is the machine - but at a higher cost. Do this search "marantz sa ki sacd" on ebay.
The key feature of the Marantz is that it upsamples everything to 4 times sacd so the filtering is easier on the output-rather than the various brick wall schemes used in most cd players. If you really need balanced out-consider the cds2000 not the cds 2100 which uses a different chip set.
Thanks Hawk!
I don't really "need" balanced outs, it is just that I have balanced ins & outs on my Cary preamp, & I just kind of thought that was a superior circuit that I would like to take advantage.
However, I have a half meter of Kimber Silver streak with RCAs that I am not using for anything, & it is looking more & more like the Marantz from Music Direct.
I have the SA-10, partly because of the balanced circuitry. That is one of the few differences between the 10 and the Ruby. I bought an open box/demo, for just a little more than the Ruby lists. That said, the ruby is a good buy.

Wow! I just did a couple of searches & that's a seven thousand dollar unit!
As I typed, I'd like to utilize my balanced inputs on my preamp, but I guess I can live with out.
I'm afraid that one will be out of the budget I have imposed upon myself, but besides balanced analogue outs, does it have way better DACs than the Ruby?
Music direct has a SA-10 Open box on sale. It has a full warranty.
If you can stretch your budget, get it. They sell quickly. It also lets you adjust the noise shaping and other filters.
No affiliation with MD.

Thanks Jack. I just took a look & @ $5600.00 I really wish. But, sadly, to go 4k I am stretching things, & I actually am waiting for a deal to go through for me so I can even be there.
But thanks again! I truly appreciate it.

hold out until you find one at $4K. You will find a player at this price by year's end.
Thanks, Fantja!
My research on the sa10 was the digital side is very similar for both. Of course, the output stage is different to handle the balanced outputs. Both are Ken's digital swan songs, so to speak. Sometimes on ebay they will have an " open box" sale-same warranty, lower price. What preamp do you have?
Thanks, Hawk!
I have an old Cary SLP 90, that was theoretically "modified by Dennis Had himself."
I picked it up, second hand, at a store that was getting out of high-end audio & getting into home theater.
I sent it back to Cary & had most of the mods "un-modded", but I also had them add balanced ins. (Balanced outs was the only mod that I kept.) However, & sadly, adding balanced ins cost me the 12AX7 phono stage.
Nice preamp-it needs a nice sacd player as well.
Haha! I am glad you asked.
Okay, so this was back in '99, & at the time I came upon this preamp (in Ohio) I had a couple of ARC VTM120s with a B&K audio-video digital preamap & I just knew I was missing something. The way the Cary, which I wound up buying, was configured was as follows: only one set of RCA ins for CD, one set of balanced outs, & the L & R balance pots were defeated. All this was done, theoretically by Dennis Had's personal soldering ironing, in the name of "hot rodding" (not my term) the preamp.
Wow. But I bought it anyway. The first thing I did was to call Cary up about changing some things around; this was back in the days when Kirk Owens was the guy you talked to, at Cary Audio, when you needed customer service, & I believe that he was the equivalent of the shop manager (I had had experience speaking with him after I bought my first tube amp, a SLA 70 Signature). What we wound up doing (or I should say what he wound up doing) was restoring RCA ins for both the aux & tuner; restoring the L & R balance pots; restoring RCA outs, ADDING the set of balanced ins that I have been using ever since for CD (sacrificing the 12AX7 phono stage); & I told him that while he was at it, to throw in the oil-filled coupling caps that Cary was always hyping.
Way more than you asked, but the short answer is yes, it does have RCA ins & I do have a half meter of Kimber Silver Streak with RCAs that I am not using for anything.

Then you have every reason to get the Marantz KI and have the balanced input available down the road. Nice preamp!
A great unit designed by a legend. I looked at it, but do not have anything balanced in my system. Enjoy!
I have one and its the best player I ever had. BTW it likes some isolation, I am using the pathewings discs under mine but its something owners can try. Enjoy!
Getting it tomorrow. Pretty psyched.
Let us know how it sounds!
The noise level in my system is so low, basically none, I am not sure there would be any improvement with the SA-10. I have made two audio purchases and a large screen purchase in the last three months for my entertainment system:
Pass XP-12
Marantz Ruby
82" Samsung TV
Every one was a home run. A buddy bought the same TV on my recommendation. He now wants to get another one for the kids' playroom.
Glad to hear that it worked out for you. The Marantz Ruby is a special sacd player.
Very special. That and the 10 are Marantz's answer, 20 years later ;-P, to the Sony SCD-1 and -777, as one of each has balanced inputs and the other has single ended. As my rig has no noise I have no need for balanced. My speakers are 97 Db / 1 watt, and not even hiss out of the tweeters.
We were listening to the Sarah Vaughn Sarah + 2 CD last night. Sounds as good as most SACDs, and the performance and songs are excellent. I'd much rather have a CD like this than an SACD with great sound but blah music.

It's great!
I've owned Accuphase and Lector cd players and spent time with many more.
The Ruby is a "bargain" at its list price and can often be had for less.
Thanks! for sharing- Accuphase is no slouch.
