The signal from LO has less distance to travel and is a purer signal. It is more difficult to boost to a listenable level and herein lies the rub. Many problems arise in taking it to a usable level and the hardware required can get costly. There are many things to consider when going with LO MC and you'll likely get more suggestions and choices than you can handle. I use LO MC and am very pleased with my results.
That said, I believe the Sumiko Blackbird HO MC gets very favorable reviews and I have an older Sumiko Talisman HO MC which is a very fine cartridge to my ears. Still, the LO MC that I use gets the overall nod from me.
