One more thing to check. Many VTF gauges don't measure at the level of an LP on the platter, but rather well above it. That will return an incorrect value than the LP actually experiences. The difference can be as high as .2g. If you can't find a way to measure VTF at the level of the LP, try adding .2g to the measured value and listen again. If there is no difference, my guess is that you have too much anti-skating force being applied. I have suffered the same problem in my set up with several tonearms, and have found that the solution has been to reduce anti-skating substantially. Hope this helps.
