I've been doing some more thorough research on some of the CD decoder chipsets I'm familiar with and found out that the ADCs in them are not clocked (they're more akin to a simple Schmitt trigger). That means that the data timing at the output of the decoder chip is being derived from the pit transitions on the disc rather than being reclocked.se
