This sounds like a great project. Note that both Teddy Pardo and Belleson are selling linear regulations designed for high-end audio that are about $60, so not much more than the ps you use.
One other interesting thing: Texas Instrument has been marketing a new Nano power supply which is a very small switching power supply with apparantly excellent ripple measurements. I wouldn't pretend that ripple is the be-all-and-end-all of ps metrics, but the Nano, which is cheap, may hold potential as a switching power supply for audio. I don't believe any audio designers have begun using it.
