Well

I did enter puberty in the 60's. Events of the era did have a great effect upon me, although I was originally a conservative. Must have been those funny tasting brownies, but quite honestly, I ran on the outskirts of a very drug influenced crowd: China white, LSD, and man made substances of all sorts and types. Several acquaintances OD'ed and that scared me enough to steer a relatively straight path.

At any rate, the Shakti patents mention quartz, the most common mineral on the earth's surface, placed on a visco elastic dampener. That's big words for something like putty or blue tack or the Duro poster putty that I use. It will convert the movement of the quartz into heat.

As for sizes to be used, the size is dependent on the strength of the EMI/RFI field you are working with. Smaller crystal work better with smaller fields, and larger ones work better stronger fields like a transformer, for example. I use smaller crystals bout 1/8 inch across to 1/4 inch in diameter and keep adding them. The larger ones have better effect on bass, the smaller ones seem to affect the treble more. Smaller one are prone to move, being lighter, and this is something you desire in order to transmute the energy into heat.

Places to try: center of motors. That means the TT motors and the spin motors of a CD player. On a CD/ DVD player, I place a crystal about 1/8 inch blue tacked to the pressure plate of the CD clamping mechanism. A larger crystal in the center of a toroidal transformer of inductor (speaker crossover) works well, also. You'll find a lot of inductors in digital amps and crystals there greatly smooth out the top end, reducing edginess.

Bear in mind sonic differences can be rather subtle but certainly additive when multiple sites are addressed. I find that room treatment, polarity correction all sometimes will mask the effects of the quartz placement. The motor sites are usually quite audible, and even give better picture when applied to a DVD player.

Stu
