Check your local rock and mineral stores. Sometimes even New Age stores carry quartz bits. I like tumbled quartz pieces which are irregularly shaped and have relatively smooth sides. The flatter ones seems to work better if you place them perpendicular to EMI/RFI fields.
When I go to CES at Vegas, LV Rock and m Mineral (IIRC correctly, right off of Sahara close to the Hilton) has quartz and quartz variant necklaces for $4 to $5 dollars and about 20 inches in circumference. I get them in a couple of different stone sizes and they last me a long time.
