Re: any possible pitfalls of removing LEDs?

If the LED is there to tell you something....then it is useless. I mean the unit is on when it plays. It is playing an SACD when it plays it....so on. No there are some instances where the designer is using an LED for its 1.2V drop...you can substitute a couple of 1N4148s in that case.

Just snip the suckers out. I first heard about this tweak from Jimmy Hughes in a British magazine back in the early 80s.....I did not have any LEDs for a long time but my first DAC was the Stax Talent...one of the first to use the PCM63 DAC chip. It had a few toggles in the front of the unit with LEDs so I started snipping and oh my, what a difference. I continue to remove LEDs in my mods to DVD/SACD/CD players where ever I can and including the toslink connector (which is an LED).

Happy snipping!
