Paralleling caps- are there any "rules"

Hi alltogether,

you might have had similar experiences

I just change the bypass cap(a small paralleled cap on a bigger film cap), and it is a great change in sound. Too great, really. So far I prefer the one and only one cap over the combinations I have heard.
With electrolytics I have not tried it yet.
I´m merely combining classic caps I have founds in surplussales, and that usually sound very good. The problem is, I need to put the values together. They are hard to integrate.

Any experiences?
