Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

Re: Tubes vs Transistors 2: Tubes are not considered High Fidelity??

Perhaps I misread the intent but there seems to be a bit of bias against the "big name, mass produced gear." It seems every time I pick up The Absolute Sound or Sterophile there is a review from some manufacturer of whom I have never heard. I think I have seen one review of Audio Research gear in the past year or so, and plenty for a variety of manufacturers. Once upon a time, Audio Research was a small, fledging company trying to keep tubes alive in the world of audio and William Zane Johnson deserves a lot of credit for the resurgence of tubes we have in high end audio today. Perhaps some would consider it a "big name, mass produced gear" sort of company. But it got that way because they do things right. Yes, I own Audio Research gear, because I like the sound in my system and for my ears. ANd I usually buy it used or as a demo, because the new stuff is really expensive. It holds value, I can trade it with my dealer and from my experience, the stuff lasts and continues to sound good over time. So I strongly disagree that an evaluation of well known gear is like an advertisement for the company. How many reviews do you ever read where the reviewer says the equipment they are reviewing stinks?

So why don't we just address the question raised by fanta instead of ragging on a company or companies because they have been successful?
