Steve,IMHO, I suspect that Lynn Olson's design is the key to get the kind of top performance out of PP topology, rather than the one-of-the-same "improved" Williamson type designs. Based on what I have been hearing experimenting with transformer coupled circuits, both in my preamp and amp, I think that a good amount of grunge and congestion is an artifact of RC type circuits, and the transformer coupled circuits offer an openness, transparency, and "air" that I don't hear in my RC coupled circuits. Power supply makes a tremendous difference as well (read choke input). But this is just my experience so far, and I have alot to learn.
Invest in a good interstage phasesplitter transformer and experiment. Allied Electronics has a cheap one that is decent sounding to start with. You may be surprised, as I was, on how great sounding transformer coupled amps are.
