Moving from SS amps to Audio Research VT-100

I have auditioned LS-25/VT-100 combo to upgrade from SS integrated amp Jeff Rowland concentra for my living room system and liked it. But I am very new to tube amps and was wondering what the cons (and pros) of going tubes vs. SS amps are. My dealer says Audio Research is especially talented at classic, Jazz and vocal but can do pop and rock as well as any. He says Nagra is more for more quiet music like chamber, vocal etc. Is this correct? Are there any other amps I should consider before buying? I do listen all genre of music but want something that will do very well with Jazz and classical music.

Also, I am very used to buying used high-end equipment, is this a good idea for tube equipment as well or should I avoid used ones? thanks. (I mostly listen to CDs)
