If you are using a low-power / SET valve amplifier - ie < 9dbw - the effects I have pointed out just will be audible on your amplifiers sound, but that ISN'T because valve rectifiers have their own particular sound.
They produce DC, only!
They just aren't very good at it, when the going gets even slightly tough.
Some are even less good at it than average IE some others a bit better.
A long time ago, the amplifier company called Quicksilver came out with a mono amp which is hard to find in OEM form anymore, as it used the now rare 8417 output valves. It also used two GZ34/5AR4 valves per chassis, in parallel IIRC, and chokes in the PSU. It was one of the few valve rectified amplifiers I remember with pleasure.
Good GZ34s - as good as the originals - are not common anymore, either.
