I have happily used the 6P3S-E's for years now and I personally like them better than NOS Sylvania 6BG6GA's and as well as NOS TS 6AR6WA's (both used with tube socket adapters) in Niteshade NS-30 PPP amps. But, on a whim I bought some Russian 6L6WGC that look identical to the 6P3S-E to see if they sounded similar. They did not at all .... to bright, thin and forward sounding. So, I returned them and tried some Sovtek 6L6WXT.
The Sovtek 6L6WXT was a revelation. Better defined, deeper bass .... smooth refined mids and a more extended treble in only good ways VS the 6P3S-E. A slight congestion I hear in the upper bass/ lower midrange(guess???) with the 6P3S-E at times is also absent with the 6L6WXT. The 6L6WXT is a beautifully balanced and liquid sounding tube. Plus, the 6L6WXT is a true 6L6GC which is currently less expensive than the few 70-80's NOS 6P3S-E's available now.
