Jack hit the nail on the head. Kevin Deal charges a premium for his tubes because he tests each one individually and writes the test results on the boxes. BUT...he sells tubes for a living. He is not going to say that his tubes are bad. He will say that your equipment is bad for frying his tubes. After I paid $40 each for Amperex 7308s that lasted less than 5 weeks, he offered to SELL me some more to determine if it really was my equipment. I replied "You mean that I should spend $80 to determine if a tube, that is not recommended by the manufacturer, will fry in my preamp?? I just sent you $160 and those tubes are toast, what makes you think that I need to spend another $80 to continue this experiment??" Of course, he did not offer to send some FREE tubes for me to try out.I get mad each time that I see a post of his recommending the Amperex 7308 to an unsuspecting person. I always email the person and relay my experience. I don't want others to waste their money like I did. I think that it is unethical for Kevin Deal to recommend the Amperex 7308s...he knows that the AI Mod3(a) will eat them for lunch.
