Well, 6CA7 (beamie) and EL34 (pentode) aren't exaclly the same. If you look at the curves the beamies have a sharper knee for instance (and I assume you will find differences in capasitances on the grid, which may explain the difference in high end roll off). What you could do is try to increase the DC current through the EL34 somewhat (closer to class A and hence a somewhat "warmer" sound, a little bit better dampening by lower plate resistance and probably also a closer low end coupling through the OPT). Another thing is to check (how?) the difference in capacitance and compensate for differences "outside" the tube. A change to 6L6 (mellow beamies) _may_ be done as well. Then there is also the expencive NOS 6CA7 (about 4 to 1 compared to Svet's), check for any 6CA7 or KT77 at e-bay... /Pär
