REM,Tubes from different manufacturers sound different. Yes, they are electrically the same, but if you look at the innards, you'll see they look different. It may be subtle, and it may be a subtle difference in sound, but it will be different.
A lot of people, myself included, feel that the Svetlanas are the best sounding new el-34 available; they do well after some break-in, far less than a few hundred hours. Enjoy the RCAs while they are still enjoyable.
If you think tube swapping for tone is splitting hairs, read around on this newsgroup. Capacitors, resistors, wire, connectors, even solder all have an effect on the sound. Welcome to the terrifying realm of audio esoteria.
As far as measuring the difference, well, boy o boy that's an itchy matter that attracts debate like flies to cake frosting. Current, voltage, resistance, distortion, background noise can all be assigned numbers, recordings can be chopped into numbers and reconstituted in playback; but music is what we're listening to, and music ain't numbers. How do you measure "more musical"? How do you quantify "smooth and balanced"?
If it were as simple as measurements and math, we'd have all reached the same conclusion and be enjoying the majesty of it in our listening rooms now, instead of typing on this newsgroup.
Well, enjoy your amp; it's a fine one. Good luck.
