I believe that what is perceptible is often less delay variation than is quantifiable in the typical A/B test generated criteria. I find that keeping delay low below 100hz helps in establishing a more solid soundstage and aids in accurately creating transient events, and such discrimination is evident in many discussions of the differences in bass quality between, for instance, horn, acoustic suspension and bass reflex loading. Don't believe A/B tests can be casually applied to such criteria.
