HiI don’t want to “put words†in Audiographics mouth but filters indeed DO have their own delays.
If one uses one of the filter design programs that has a Group Delay plot, one can see what a filter does in time or distance with there being something like .883 milliseconds per foot in that scale. Note that it changes with frequency through the transition region.
As he also correctly hints at, many modern computer based measurement systems do not actually have the ability to measure real acoustic phase and instead make the simplification in assuming the driver / system is always Minimum Phase. One then takes the amplitude response and uses a Hilbert transform to get “phaseâ€. Unfortunately a myriad of normal circumstances including having more than one driver can make the minimum phase assumption invalid and along with it, the phase curve (and the group delay plot as it depends on phase)
