"The Busch Quartet was a fine ensemble of great reputation in Europe and England during the 1930's, but their involvement with this music never reached the level of artistry and visionary insight of the Russians"Adolf Busch in general and the Busch Quartet in particular dug into Beethoven's scores far far deeper than the Budapest Quartet ever did. I have heard the Budapest's mono cycle on LP and while they are indeed insightful performances, at no stage do they even get close to the meaning of the great slow movements of the late quartets as Adolf Busch's "long bow" does. I am amazed at your statement...have you contrasted the late quartet performances ? The difference is ever so apparent....
