Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Brahms was fighting bombasticism at times

174.131.171.91

Sometimes he was not successful. Sym. 3. is an heroic effort in this. He succeeds, but to the detriment of his music. Third movement is a beautiful, romantic interlude. Not sure if this was his most successful attempt at it or not.

Why couldn't he just jettison the bombastics totally? His understanding of Beethoven, or German music in general?
