Interesting comments about "Carmen." One gorgeous melody after the next, to my ear. And to this I'd add that Richard Strauss supposedly told his young student George Szell that, if he wanted to learn how to orchestrate, he should study the score of "Carmen" above all others. That being said, I wonder if you saw and heard the same production we had in Portland (OR) a couple of years ago. Great baritone, but the rest was marginal at best...
