When you look at how people live in the Third World, just about everything we have in the West is a luxury.Music has existed for thousands of years in every culture (I assume every). So clearly whatever it is that music does, it is important enough that is has been so completely universal and been around for so long. Thus, it is a necessity.
What is a luxury is owning hundreds (thousands) of CDs, LPS and/or SACDs, and paying hundreds of dollars for concert tickets.
