"...even tho the trumpeter "blends" (f you can believe it) into the ensemble and is about as loud as the recorder."That's just the point--the four solo instruments should be relatively equal in volume--or put another way, they should all be audible in the concertino sections, even the soft-voiced recorder. The modern-day concept of the Second as trumpet concert (i.e., Scherbaum & Andre) is a perversion of Bach's intentions, IMO.
I agree that the Pinnock is probably the best HIP version out there, although one should also audition the old Collegium Aurium set for Ed Tarr's wonderful (and somewhat bolder) rendition of the trumpet part.
