General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

RE: Of course, the problem cannot be negative reviews in general...

I don't know if you've ever attended an audio show, but in the shows I've attended the sound quality was all over the place. Different exhibitors operating in equivalent rooms under the same conditions produce widely different results, some very good and some very bad. While everyone knows that hotel rooms aren't ideal rooms for demonstrating audio equipment, they aren't that far off from what many potential customers have to work with, and more importantly they are a common factor that every exhibitor has to deal with.

The fact is that some show systems & rooms sound good and some sound bad, and sometimes negative impressions reflect individual preference and sometimes they are fairly universal.

Bad sound might results from poorly performing gear, poor system building/equipment matching, inappropriate systems for the room size, inappropriate music selection, poor setup, unaddressed acoustic problems, unaddressed power problems, or some combination of the above. But just because you can't identify the root causes of a poor sounding room doesn't mean you can't post your impressions of the sound.

If praising good sound is fair game, then criticizing bad sound is too. Exhibitors who aren't capable or aren't willing to put on a good demo shouldn't be sheltered from criticism. Show goers ought to be free to share their impressions including calling a spade a spade.
