...you are absolutely correct.A company has the right to operate within a hair's breadth of the law, and if it maximizes profits by doing so, it has an obligation to its shareholders to do so.
If Monster Cable are operating within the law, there is no "moral", no compunction for them to behave in any manner which reduces their profitability.
As for the "industry", perhaps a professional association can be organized- say the Wire and Interconnect Manufacturers and Producers, who could create guidelines for its members.
The WIMPs could get together annually at conventions, preferably at a nice resort (tax deductible of course), and put pressure on Monster Cable to behave in a much nicer manner.
