Re: Long comment on Monster Cable

I still am not quite clear on how Monster's marketing tactics and possible overzealousness at trademark protection is hurting the audio industry - and specifically, cable manufacturers such as yourself. I'm not trying to be contrary or arguementative, I just don't understand. I can't imagine most audio enthusiasts who would be consumers of higher end cable products would let possible mean-spirited marketing tactics of one maker, predjudice their views of other makers, let alone the whole audio industry.

You see big companies like Microsoft using aggressive tactics to defend questionable liscencing and copyright infrigements. I don't hold other software and computer companies responsible for their actions. Pepsi signed a contract with our university to sell only their products on campus, but I doubt that will destroy the soft drink industry.

When a company like Monster Cable goes after another company using a Monster-type name, don't they have to prove before some judge or jury somewhere, that thet stand to have something to lose because of the infringement (not a rhetorical question, I really don't know how that works)? I would imagine they win some cases, and lose others, isn't that how it is supposed to work? I'm sure that some non-cable related companies using the Monster name, are intimidated, or just plain worn out through the hassle and expense of fighting a big company like MC so they just give up. Maybe that is something they should consider before giving a company, or a product, a name of a nationally recognized company?
