RE: Budget CD Player Options

Other options include Onkyo, Yamaha and the sometimes discussed get a $50 DVD or Blu-ray player and use it as a transport with a separate DAC.

Depending on who you want to believe, very good DACS are available for $100. You do need to make sure that the player has a digital output that the DAC can accept. Many DVD and Blu-ray players are HDMI output only these days.

Three downsides of the DVD player approach are there is no built in display, the players are generally mechanically noisy, and they tend to be slower in loading and recognizing a disc than a CD player.

Another option that has not hit the market yet, Fosi is working on a CD player.
