Wow, that's bad news. So you'd rather have potential customers pair this great new DAC with, for example, an Ayre AX-7e that uses only one of the inputs rather than going directly to a V-5xe?
How about some kind of compromise like a volume control that just uses +/- buttons? Perhaps a digital solution as part of the DAC itself (if the chip can support it, translate the input to 32 bits then shift down for volume control, which should provide little or no loss to resolution even at very low volume levels...I believe PS Audio is using an approach like this for their new high-end computer-data-friendly DAC)?
