The LCR meter has test leads as well as a socket for small components. I measured the inductance of the leads and jumper first, then the cord attached to leads and jumper, and reported the differences. Whatever the absolute accuracy of the meter in this range, there is no measured difference between the two cord gauges to within 0.1 microhenry. The Dick Smith meter has a zero button to perform the same function.
The inductive reactance difference of 100 nH at 1 KHz is less than a milliohm. I don't have a good notion of why there would be so much apparent tonal balance shift with a minor change in power cord geometry. Neither does the person who told me about the phenomenon. I did the experiment expecting to hear no difference.
