Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Yes, conductor size has a profound influence on tonal balance.

I've compared 16-gauge with 14-gauge power cords on my Wadia 861 and Atma-Sphere MA-1 mid/treble amps. These are 'stock' shielded cords and modified with proprietary recipes. The cords retain their molded plugs and IEC connectors. The cords are not from the same company (the 14-gauge are Volex, while the 16-gauge are of Asian provenance), so there could be some difference due to materials, but the basic construction looks the same.

Going from 16- to 14-gauge on the Wadia made little difference, but this change on the Atma-Sphere amps (which have 500 watts idle dissipation each) eliminated a bright balance that caused me to pursue extensive room and speaker treatment experiments. All the detail and air are still there, but at a more natural level.

I'm not so sure that all audio power supplies keep artifacts of the music signal out of the AC cords. My modifications are directed towards RF noise and resonances, but I've noticed some improvement when I extend their effective range towards the audio band.
